Ever wondered what it takes to excel in the fast-paced world of media? Let me take you on a journey from my early days in radio, TV, and print to the dynamic digital age we live in today. The building of the Media Training Course is not just a collection of lessons but a culmination of decades of firsthand experience in the media industry.
Radio, TV, and Print may sound a little old-fashioned now, but until you realize that tweeting, blogging, sending a picture by Instagram, or writing on your Facebook wall, you are actually using the traditional media’s tools of headlines, outlines, pictures, leads, subhead, sidebars, call-outs, and clips. It’s always been about fast and powerful communication!
My Journey into Media
When I graduated from High School, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do for a living. How was I going to make my way in the world? Then, a friend of mine who was going to go to the same university was talking about the Campus radio station. I didn’t get the connection between going to university and a campus radio station until the first week. When I visited him there, it all was right in front of me – news and information, music, a network of friends, the heir of respectability, and a ticket to summer jobs in public and private broadcasts. Get to know more about me in my biography.
From Local to National Media
I covered city council, interviewed civic boosters, rip the black spots out of film and the old days of film cameras. I did all the kinds of interviewing you do at the local level. Then, my career progressed at the network level in Canada and the US. I interviewed national leaders, heads of government and attended significant events like the presidential debates in New Hampshire. Back then, 50-60 million Americans tuned into the evening news; today, that number is around 20 million, all over age 55. Take a look at some of my media apparences over the decades.
Media Communication: Clear Messages and Confidence
Things have changed in the media, but the need to speak right and communicate powerfully has not changed. This course is designed to help you master this skill, just as I had to learn during my career. From my countless interviews, I noticed many people lacked a clear message. In fact, nervousness makes some of them appear to be guilty of something or to be unknowledgeable about their own feelings. Thus, I founded my company and got into Media Training, helping people get used to the lights, camera, action, pencils and pads, and prepare you for the realities of media interaction. You can find out more about clear messaging in this article of mine.
